To date I have walked 72 miles on the treadmill and likely significantly further in Second Life as my Gandhi avatar, as do all avatars in SL, walks at an accelerated pace. Oddly, my treadmill set-up, which is basically a reed switch activated by magnets on the flywheel, hacked into a keyboard where I have closed the circuit on the forward arrow key – essentially fooling the keyboard as if one were continuously pressing the forward key – this system actually makes my MGandhi avatar walk faster than others in SL. This is interesting and a happy accident as Gandhi was notoriously a very fast walker in RL.
My goal is to shift between doing 10-12 miles per day for the remainder of the reenactment.
I will be walking between the hours of 12noon and 5pm today. Stopping a bit early to get ready for a live enactment of the “dead-in-iraq” project at Eyebeam this evening at 7pm.
Here is a picture from the opening at Eyebeam a week ago for the Feedback show (I am not part of this show on green issues and sustainability – my installation for this performance is just off from the main space at Eyebeam).
